What I really love about this collection is how DRAMATIC it sounds. This essentially sounds real for the most part.

The “Bombastic Basses” patch actually has horns that blast in on the top velocity layer! Very exciting. But that limitation can be inspiring, as I found out when I used it. For instance: you only get short, staccato-style basses sordino (muted) strings, and other cool crescendo effects. Now this set is very limited, in terms of range and sound selections.

But on most modern machines, it shouldn’t be an issue to load separate instruments. Maybe their paid libraries are like that, I’m not sure. The only downside would be that I’d prefer to have the option to load each instrument separately. This could easily be a go-to for any production, and it would be hard to not recommend this.

Personally, I’m not crazy about keyswitches, but the developers give you options to change what triggers the articulations (keyboard note MIDI CC, etc), so that helps.įor me, I found it was easiest to load a separate instance of Kontakt for each instrument.
What’s a little different with Palette is that you have one single Kontakt instrument that loads all the patches simultaneously, and then you have to use keyswitches to change instruments and articulations. This is a pretty powerful free Kontakt library that I keep forgetting about.
